My favourite Pride and Prejudice Quotes

Any time that I design a new pencil set I sit down and reread the novel. With the Pride and Prejudice pencils this was like treating myself to really delicious chocolate.

When choosing what quotes I will use for a pencil set I try and pick the top five most quotable sections from the novel. I choose from core scenes and important moments. But there are always quotes that don’t get included.

So I have compiled a list of my favourite Pride and Prejudice quotes in this blog post. Both those I included in my pencil set and those I had to leave out!

It is a truth

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife. However little known the feelings or views of such a man may be…

Chapter 1 - Pride and Prejudice it is a truth universally acknowledged

She is tolerable

She is tolerable; but not handsome enough to tempt me; and I am in no humour at present to give consequence to young ladies who are slighted by other men.

In vain have I struggled

This is absolutely one of my favourite Pride and Prejudice quotes

“In vain have I struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.” Elizabeth’s astonishment was beyond expression. She stared, coloured, doubted, and was silent.

The handsomest women

“Yes,” replied Darcy, who could contain himself no longer, “but that was when I first knew her; for it is many months since I have considered her as one of the handsomest women of my acquaintance.”

You are too generous

You are too generous to trifle with me. If your feelings are still what they were last April, tell me so at once. My affections and wishes are unchanged, but one word from you will silence me on this subject forever.

No enjoyment like reading

I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book! – Miss Bingley, Pride and Prejudice

Mr. Collins

I must therefore conclude that you are not serious in your rejection of me, I shall choose to attribute it to your wish of increasing my love by suspense, according to the usual practice of elegant females – Mr Collins, Pride and Prejudice
